The New Hypnosis

The New Hypnosis

Many people have been asking “What is the New Hypnosis?”.  First off, the New Hypnosis is different from anything you’ve ever experienced before.

These hypnosis tactics and techniques start at the same spot, a mixture of direct and Ericksonian hypnosis, the traditional “art” of hypnosis, and then add a good measure of Neuro-linguistic programming, using some of those very powerful techniques in a completely new way.  Finally, we integrate the latest science in how the mind works – the science they do with CAT scans and all that big expensive equipment.

Surprisingly enough (to them, not to us hypnotists who have known it all along) the big double blind studies and research they are doing confirms that hypnosis and the techniques we’ve been using for years work.

On top of that the research is teaching us new and exciting things about the way the brain works, and as we weave that into our hypnosis it becomes even stronger.   We’re having greater success at helping people stop smoking, or lose weight with hypnosis, or even just become more relaxed and confident.
Why does it work?  Well, we’ve always focused on hypnosis being words and tone.  As we go through our studies to become master hypnotists, we learn exactly what to say, and what tone to use to most effectively help our clients make changes.  The new discovery gives us additional informaiton on how to hone those words, and especially the tone to be most effective.

Additionally, there are a couple of special secrets – only one of which we’re going to share on the public part of this site (don’t want the other new hypnosis folks to get on my case for giving it all away).  That secret is the breath.

The new research shows that exactly how and when and where you breathe when you are doing hypnosis, either in person or using video or audio can make a huge impact on the client.  As we integrate these new ideas, our hypnosis is even more powerful on the people who loved it before, and we’re noticing that even people who were formerly resistant to hypnosis have much more success with the New Hypnosis.
You’ll notice that some of our material is audio – on the site you might find an hypnosis mp3, or a hypnosis CD, and other material is all video.   This is  a reflection of what we’ve learned and the success we’ve been having with these new techniques.

So, as you rove through the site, be curious about which of the New Hypnosis products you want to try first.

How does hypnosis manifest change?

How does hypnosis work?

Hypnosis works through working with the power of the subconscious.  Many personal growth or self-improvement techniques work with the conscious mind, they expect us to have great willpower to make changes, or to make changes very slowly.  Personally, I know that my willpower, while very strong, isn’t strong enough to make the kinds of changes I want in my life.

Hypnosis works by bringing the conscious and subconscious, or unconscious mind into alignment.  The unconscious mind has a couple of characteristics we need to understand:

1.    It’s incredibly powerful.  If you consider the power of a mouse and the power of an elephant, the conscious mind would be the mouse, and the subconscious mind the elephant.  So if you have powerful willpower and a strong conscious mind, just think of how powerful your unconscious is!
2.    It does what it’s asked.  The subconscious mind will do what it thinks you want it to do.  Sometimes this seems a little odd.  I think I want to lose weight.  I tell it I want to lose weight.  So why am I not losing weight?  Well, chances are that a part of you wants to lose weight, and another part of you might want another cookie, and another part resists the idea of exercise and so on – so the unconscious mind is getting mixed signals.
3.    When in partnership with the conscious mind, you can have great changes.  If we use the earlier analogy of the mouse and the elephant, if the mouse could clearly tell the elephant what it wants to accomplish, and work with it to make sure it’s done, then just think of what you could do. That’s how hypnosis works.

So, how do we get these two parts to work together?  We get a clear understanding of what you want to accomplish, then we clearly let the unconscious know what we want.  Rinse and repeat.  One of the reasons we suggest that you repeat the programs for 21 days is because we need to make sure the message is consistent.
During the time that you are not listening to the hypnosis audio or watching the hypnosis video, your conscious mind is probably continuing to give the subconscious mind mixed messages (hmmm that cookie looks good).  Then, you listen to the hypnosis program that we’ve put together for you and you get a strong, clear message to your unconscious letting it know what you want (look and feel slender and healthy).  Because of the special techniques that we use, the 10 or 20 minute audio is much more powerful than your daily musings, and sets the unconscious on the right path.

Your unconscious will “get it” the first time.  Even if you only listen for one day you will see changes.  On the other hand, to get the most from your investment (in the course and in yourself), more is better.

What are the steps in a good hypnosis session?

What are the steps in a good hypnosis session?

A good hypnosis session will take you through the following steps:

1.    Decision.  Make the decision that you really want  the change.   You don’t have to believe that the hypnosis will work – that’s not required.  You do need to believe, at least for the most part, that you want the change.  There may be parts of you that want to keep smoking, or have more weight than is your ideal, and that’s okay, but the more of you that wants the change, easier it will be to get the change.
2.    Relaxation.  Relax.  Find a comfortable place in your home where you won’t be disturbed, and make sure you’ve set aside enough time for the hypnosis session and relax.  Think about your favorite vacation, dream for a moment about how great it will be when you are your perfect weight, when you’ve quit smoking, when you have all the confidence you want.
3.    Induction. Now turn on the audio or watch the video.  It will take you through a deeper relaxation, then a hypnotic induction.  This is a specific combination of words and sounds by a trained hypnotist that has a long history of taking people to a state where they are open to suggestion.
4.    Deepening.  Deepening takes you even deeper into the trance state, to a state where you are open to the suggestions.  Often you’ll find that you feel so relaxed that it’s difficult to move (although you can if you need to), and even if you really let yourself go to it you can get so deep that it almost feels like you are sleeping.
5.    Hypnotic suggestions. Once you are deeper into the trance state, we introduce the hypnotic suggestions.  These are the specific instructions that have been tried and tested with hundreds of clients to be the fastest and most effective way to make the changes you desire.
6.    Post hypnotic suggestions.  Along with the hypnotic suggestions we add some post-hypnotic suggestions, which ar things like “when you awake you will feel refreshed and relaxed, like you just had 8 hours of sleep”.  These are additions to the hypnotic suggestions that make it so that when you wake up from the hypnosis you feel great.
7.    Waking.  Coming out of trance is a slow and gradual process, so that you have a good experience.
8.    Integration.  The integration process takes place over the next few hours, as your conscious and subconscious mind find a new equilibrium with the new information and suggestions that have been integrated into the system.

How Many Times Should I Listen To My Hypnosis MP3?

How Many Times Should I Listen To My Hypnosis Audio?

One question we get a lot is: Why do we want you to listen to the audios (or watch the videos) for 21 days?  The short answer is “Because you’ll get deeper changes”.
Of course you’ll get changes in one session – with the stop smoking program you’ll lose the craving for cigarettes, or with the lose weight program you’ll lose craving for junk food.  It is true.  For most people that’s it – one session and they are done.
For other’s though (and this is the truth with all hypnosis – check the research), it may take multiple sessions.  Ideally we like to see our clients get both the immediate benefits – stop smoking, and the additional benefits that we put in every audio.  The rule of thumb that is used throughout the hypnosis community is 21 days.  It takes 21 days for your unconscious to fully and completely accept the change.  21 days in a row.
So, even though we know that you’ll probably get the result that you want just by listening to the hypnosis mp3 or watching the hypnosis video once, we want to make sure that those results will last, and we encourage you to take in the information for 21 days.
An additional benefit is that the hypnosis audios and hypnosis videos will relax you and clear your mind – every piece that we do has additional benefits beyond just helping you quit smoking or lose weight, and as you listen to them multiple times, you get more and more of those additional benefits.
Many people listen to their audios right before they go to sleep, and if you fall asleep listening to it, that’s okay too.  With the videos you can watch them once or twice, then go ahead and just listen to them – your body will remember the visual queues.
Finally, please remember to never, never, never listen to or watch these videos while operating machinery, driving, or taking care of small children.  Hypnosis puts you into a trance state, which you can come out of at any time, but it’s just not safe to be driving or operating heavy machinery while in a trance.

What is the difference between Traditional, Ericksonian and covert hypnosis?

What is the difference between direct, Ericksonian and covert hypnosis?

Many people ask us the difference between the different types of hypnosis – direct hypnosis, Ericksonian and covert (or underground hypnosis).  This article lays out some of the basic differences.

Direct Hypnosis (or Traditional Hypnosis)

With direct hypnosis we relax the client and give direct commands or positive affirmations to the unconscious (see article on How Does Hypnosis Work?).  Most hypnosis tapes and CD’s are based on Traditional Hypnosis techniques because it is straightforward, easy to learn, and, well, Traditional.

The tools of Traditional Hypnosis are relaxation, induction, and commands.  The hypnotist must first gain the trust of the client, then put them into a trance state where they will be open to the suggestions, and finally they give direct instructions to the mind which will then start manifesting them.

Direct hypnosis has had a long history of success.  Unfortunately, it’s not as successful with people today, as we are more and more likely to resist and question direct commands given to us.

Ericksonian Hypnosis (or Conversational Hypnosis)

Milton Erickson was a brilliant M.D. who was instrumental in getting hypnosis accepted by the British and American Medical Associations.  His techniques were more subtle than Traditional hypnosis.   With Ericksonian hypnosis the hypnotist must first have a solid command of the basics – breath, tone control, and language.  These are the tools to get the client into trance and keep them there so the change work can be done.

The tools of Ericksonian hypnosis are similar to Traditional, at least the relaxation and induction.  At that point though the Ericksonian hypnotist will move into telling stories and talking about other ideas that may or may not seem like they relate to the goal at hand.  These might be stories about the secret law of attraction, or about bees buzzing on a summer day, or about Bob Doyle.  The content is not important – it’s the story.  These are lateral tools for making change – ways to slip past that questioning mind and gain direct access to the unconscious where the changes are to be made.

Covert Hypnosis (or Underground Hypnosis)

Erickson developed a repertoire of tools for putting people into trance without their direct awareness.  These covert hypnotic induction tools, combined with complex (and highly effective) language patterns enable things like street hypnosis, where a hypnotist will be able to hypnotize a random stranger on the street to give them their wallet.   While these techniques themselves are intriguing, they can also be used in ways that I consider unethical.

The tools for covert hypnosis (like any powerful tools) can be used in ethical and unethical ways.  A simple example is the common sales tool “Do you want to have me come meet you and describe our product on Tuesday or Thursday?” or,  a parenting example “Do you want to go to bed before or after I read you a story?”  This is a hypnotic language pattern – the assumption is that you are going to go to bed.  When you answer the question, you’ll generally answer either “before” or “after”, although with our kids they see through this after a couple times and say “neither”.

Covert or underground hypnosis is valuable to learn – it will help you sell your ideas better to your family, friends, boss and even strangers.  Just like all powerful tools though, following strong ethical principles is important.

Law of Attraction – The Secret and The New Hypnosis

Every once in awhile someone asks me about the interplay between The New Hypnosis and things like the Law of Attraction, or the movie the Secret.

It’s a great question.  When we are hypnotizing others, we are directly impacting their unconscious.  The best kind of hypnotizing is where we help them manifest – become more successful, wealthier, happier through hypnosis.

We can also use the tools of hypnosis, both traditional and conversational to hypnotize ourselves and make the secret law of attraction even more powerful.  When we hypnotize ourselves to believe that “ask and it is given”, then we find that things can work a lot more smoothly in our lives.

Hypnosis can also be a tool to strengthen positive affirmations, both in ourselves and others.  It’s sort of a secret beyond the secret.

So, yes – I think that for people with the right mindset – people who enjoy Esther Hicks, Jerry Hicks, Bob Doyle, Michael Losier and Rhonda Byrne, hypnosis can be a powerful tool to help you get further, faster with less work by aligning your concious and sub-concious mind.

It’s a powerful tool, however it’s used.
